Montane are a UK based company and have become synonymous with lightweight and breathable clothing and equipment. With the launch of their new autumn/winter range for 2020/21 we were asked to shoot two of their athletes moving fast and light in an Alpine setting in the mountains of Snowdonia.

Because we are all local we were able to be flexible on days and wait for the right weather conditions, picking an Alpine start in July which meant getting up pretty early!

I chose the East Ridge of Y Garn as the location as I knew it would be bathed in the early morning light and would give the style of shots that Montane were looking for. It is a lovely grade 2-3 scramble and has a bit of everything on it which would allow us to capture a range of shots. It would also allow me to solo around Becky and Matt as they moved on the rope, allowing maximum efficiency and minimum faff. 

I shot half a dozen video clips along the way which the client could edit for social media use, as well as the photography that would form the basis of the campaign. 

This shoot is a great example of what we are good at; the ability to move well in the mountains, the use of local knowledge to pick the right location, the ability to shoot video and stills on the same shoot and the ability to produce genuine content from a true mountain setting.
