The Snowdon Mountain Railway is one of the finest examples of a mountain railway anywhere in the world and dates back to the Victorian era when anything was possible!
The Snowdon Mountain Tramroad and Hotels Company Ltd. was formed in 1894. The technology for safely transporting carriages of people up and down a mountainside had existed in Switzerland for some time so that was where the newly-formed company went. A patented rack-and-pinion railway system, perfected by Dr. Roman Abt, was reliably working in the Swiss Alps and on the Manitou & Pike’s Peak railway in America and so was adopted on Snowdon and the same system is used today.
This summer the company invested in some beautiful new carriages and in some amazing restoration of the original carriages that date back to 1896. To do the investment justice they wanted some aerial photographs of the trains against their mountain backdrop.
We provided a portfolio of film and photographs for the company to use in their marketing and to record the new carriages for all time.
