DJI X5 Camera First Impressions 29th October 2015

In this post I aim to bring you my DJI X5 camera first impressions, having managed to grab an hours flying this afternoon. Fitting the DJI X5 Camera Fitting the new camera to an Inspire 1 is quick and easy, you need to fit a new base plate to your Inspire but once you have done that the new camera clicks into place in exactly the same way as the old one but with the addition of a rear fixing clip…

DJI X5 Camera has arrived 27th October 2015

Our new DJI X5 camera has arrived – and I’m excited! This new camera takes the DJI Inspire from being brilliant to being fantastic with the camera quality improving dramatically. The new camera uses a micro 4/3 sensor which is 8 times bigger than the sensor it replaces. It also gives us interchangeable lenses, adjustable focus and aperture, 4K video at up to 30fps or 1920×1080 (60fps), 16MP photographs and a superb 12.8 stops of dynamic range. I just need the weather to improve…

Ultra Magazine 27th October 2015

Ultra Magazine is an award winning magazine devoted to ultra running and celebrating adventure, freedom and endurance. I was really pleased when its editor, Andy Nuttall, got in touch to ask if he could use a screen grab from our latest filming on Tryfan with runner Kate Worthington.

DJI Inspire 1 vs S900 & GH4 26th October 2015

DJI Inspire 1 vs S900 & GH4 The DJI Inspire 1 has become the go-to choice of drone for me this year and uses the X3 camera, with the X5 and X5R being released this month. I found myself using my S900 less and less with the X3 camera packing a surprisingly big punch for such a small camera and the Inspire 1 being a much nicer drone to fly than the S900. In this article I am going to…

Drone filming in the mountains 25th October 2015

Drone filming in the mountains is my specialty as a film maker, photographer, climber and drone pilot and my favourite time of year is the winter months. The first snow has fallen this weekend on the summits in Scotland and so I am starting to get excited about what lies ahead for this coming winter. I already have some great projects in the pipeline and I have been sharpening my axes and crampons, waxing my skis and polishing my lenses in anticipation….

Drone Pilot Snowdonia 23rd October 2015

Drone Pilot Snowdonia I was working as a drone pilot in Snowdonia on a commercial this week for a TV company, a days shoot on the stunning beaches that we have and a days shoot on the mountain of Snowdon itself. “Are you the drone pilot for Snowdonia” they asked as I arrived on set on the first morning. It would be nice to think I was the only one! I explained that for these two days I was their…

Drone Filming for a TV Commercial here in Wales 20th October 2015

I have been drone filming on a TV commercial for the last couple of days. We were based on the beach on Anglesey yesterday and on the Pyg Track on Snowdon today. I was the freelance drone pilot for the shoot and have to say that the production company had the best catering wagon I have ever had the pleasure of visiting! I can’t say much about the job until the advert hits TV screens in January so I will…

Citadel Mountain Film 18th October 2015

Last night I went to watch the new Alastair Lee film “Citadel”. It features climbers John Bracey and Matt Helliker attempting new route on an unclimbed peak in Alaska. The cinematography takes climbing films to a new level – if you get the chance to go and see it then go for it. If not you will be able to buy it here: http://www.posingproductions.com/homepage.php Citadel Mountain Film Trailer from Posing Productions on Vimeo. Also showing was the new film “Operation Moffat”…

Aerial Filming using drones in Manchester 10th October 2015

The post is equally relevant for drone filming in Liverpool, Chester, Leeds, Newcastle, London – in fact any major city that you may want to film with drones in the UK. Northern Lights on Anglesey 8th October 2015

I have only seen the Northern Lights once in my life and that was in Arctic Sweden 15 years ago, so when I heard that they would be visible last night from North Wales I grabbed my camera and tripod and headed to Penmon Lighthouse on Anglesey. This gives a popular vantage point, there must have been about 20 other photographers out last night, but allows a view North without light pollution and of course some nice foreground interest. This…

Tryfan Sunrise – Take 2 2nd October 2015

Earlier in the week I was up for sunrise on Tryfan but it didn’t quite go to plan as the clouds rolled up the Ogwen Valley incredibly quickly and swept over the top of us. Today Kate and I headed up for a second attempt and as you can see from the images we had a bit more luck. Project: Film for Snowdonia National Park Authority – coming soon Kit: DJI Inspire 1 with X3 Camera – the photos are…
