A few years ago I used to produce a paper brochure for my business every year. We would print about 3000 copies, they would cost about £1.00 each to print and then an additional cost to post out and they would last about a year. What a change the digital media world has made! Two weeks ago I posted a video that I made to showcase our aerial filming of me climbing Ledge Route on Ben Nevis. Here are the…
Monday night saw the last episode of The Mountain on ITV Wales and was my favourite, focusing on the winter months. It had a lot of my footage in it that was mainly filmed on the GoPro but also a bit that I filmed on the GH4. Its a lovely series that gives a great insight into lives of the people who live and work on Snowdon. I donated all of my footage free of charge to help promote mountain…
I have been out with my DJI S900 today doing some mountain flying at home here in Snowdonia. Mountain flying has its advantages in that we are generally working in big, wide open spaces but also its disadvantages such as having to carry the kit up in the first place! We have got some fresh snow on the summits today so they were looking stunning!
I have been out on the West Coast this morning doing some filming in the beautiful winters light. Heres a still from some aerial video that I shot of Castle Tioram on the GoPro.
Ben Nevis, Ledge Route – Aerial filming using a drone from Rob Johnson on Vimeo. Here is the film from yesterdays filming on Ben Nevis. I hope you enjoy it!
I have been aerial filming on the North Face of Ben Nevis today using my DJI Phantom Drone with a GoPro Hero 4 camera. It has been a stunning day and I headed up Ledge Route (2) which gave some stunning views. Here are some screen grabs to wet your appetite whilst I edit the footage over the next day or so.
The Himalayas from 20,000 ft. from Teton Gravity Research on Vimeo. This stunning footage has been filmed by Teton Gravity Research and features a combination of drone and helicopter platforms to get some absolutely beautiful mountain footage in 4K of Everest, Ama Dablam and the trek in from Lukla.
The BBC have been using a DJI Phantom (the smaller of the two platforms that we fly) to get some great footage through Crossrails tunnels. You can watch it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-31820033
Our winter showcase has made Video of the Week on the hill walking forum UKHillwalking.com – you can read the article here: http://www.ukhillwalking.com/news/item.php?id=69555 Great stuff!
I have been down in Cardiff all week this week doing my Remote Pilot Qualification (RPQ-s). Although I have been flying drones (in my case quadcopter) for a couple of years I have never gone down the route of getting qualified until now. In the UK there is no legal requirement to hold a qualification unless the drone is being used for commercial use or is being flown in congested areas with a camera attached. I enjoyed the training. It…
